June Lake and the Mono Basin
Where to Eat
Some nights you will cook in the gourmet kitchen. On the others, here is where we go.
1. La Parrilla
Just outside June Lake Brewing in the village, and the best Mexican food in the Eastern Sierra. We will not be talked out of that. Order at the window, grab a pint from the brewery, and eat outside with the whole loop walking by.
2. The Tiger Bar
Under new management since 2026, from the same owners as La Parrilla, and they have transformed the place. Great food, a warm room, and still one of the oldest liquor licenses in California. Highly recommended. Between the two, they are turning June Lake around, and we are grateful.
3. Eagle’s Landing
Two minutes down-canyon at the Double Eagle Resort, with mountain and waterfall views from every seat. We recommend breakfast.
4. Silver Lake Resort
A summer favorite and the best breakfast on the loop. Arrive early to beat the wait.
5. Whoa Nellie Deli
The best food between June Lake and the Nevada border, inside the gas station at the junction of Highways 120 and 395 just before Lee Vining. It is the last stop before Tioga Pass and the first one back. Remarkably refined, and always busy in summer.
