Staying at the chalet
How many people does the chalet sleep?
Up to eight overnight guests, including infants. No more than ten people may be on the property at any time. Mono County sets these limits, so there are no exceptions.
Do you rent individual rooms?
No. Guests book the entire 4,000 square foot chalet.
What are the beds?
Two California King and one queen memory foam bed in the three suites, a pull-out couch in the master suite’s loft, and a queen futon in the family room.
How far is the chalet from Yosemite?
27 highway miles to Yosemite’s Tioga Pass entrance, about 40 minutes, and about 45 minutes to Tuolumne Meadows. Yosemite Valley is about 2 to 2.5 hours away by Tioga Road. Tioga Road is open seasonally, usually from late May or June to about November.
Can I really ski from the top of June Mountain to the hot tub?
Yes, with a local guide service. June Mountain is known for some of the best lift-assisted backcountry skiing in North America, and a guided run can end at the chalet’s hydrotherapy tub.
Can I hike from the back door into Yosemite?
Yes, over Mono Pass or Donohue Pass, if you are in excellent condition. You will need to catch the YARTS bus or arrange a pickup in the park at the end of the day.
How much does the chalet cost per night?
From $295 a night on quiet midweek dates to $995 at the Christmas peak. Live prices for your dates are on VRBO and Airbnb, or check our availability calendar and ask us directly.
Are there taxes or additional charges?
Two, and no others. A flat $295 cleaning fee per stay, and Mono County’s 15% transient occupancy tax. Both are in your quote before you book.
Is the hot tub open year round?
Yes. The outdoor hydrotherapy tub runs all year, in summer under the stars and in winter with snow banked around it. Guests under 18, pregnant guests, and anyone with a heart condition or pacemaker may not use it.
Do kids ski free at June Mountain?
Yes. Kids 12 and under ski free all season at June Mountain with a no-cost child season pass, reserved on IkonPass.com or issued at the ticket office. The mountain is a mile from the chalet.
Are there paddleboards?
Yes. Five stand-up paddleboards in the garage are included with your stay. Silver Lake and Rush Creek are a few minutes up the road.
What are check-in and check-out times?
Check-in begins at 4:30 pm. Check-out is at 10:00 am.
Is there a washer and dryer?
Yes, a high-end washer and dryer in the garage.
Do we need to bring linens or towels?
No. The house is equipped with organic cotton sheets and towels for the beds, the baths and the tubs.
What should we bring for the kitchen?
Just food. The kitchen is fully stocked, down to the coffee maker, coffee grinder and garlic press, and we provide salt and olive oil.
Can we use a barbecue?
Because of high fire danger in the Eastern Sierra, we discourage barbecues. If you must, you may bring a propane barbecue for the back deck.
Do we bring firewood?
Yes, though a small batch of firewood will be waiting as a welcome.
Can we host a wedding or family reunion?
No. The county limit is eight overnight guests and ten people on the property at any time.
Why is there a three-car limit?
June Lake’s understated charm matters to us and our neighbors. No more than three guest cars may be in the driveway at any time.
Are pets allowed?
No. Pets are not allowed on the property.
How private is the loft in the master suite?
Like any loft, whoever sleeps there has a commanding view of the room below.
Will we have the whole chalet?
Yes. Everything described is yours for the stay.
Can we fly into Mammoth?
Yes. Mammoth Yosemite Airport is about 25 minutes from the chalet, with seasonal commercial service and rental cars. In winter, a storm can delay connections.
