Bloody Canyon and Mono Pass
The old route over the crest, from Walker Lake up past the Sardine Lakes to Mono Pass.
Map by Bill Tipton, made for the Yosemite Gateway Chalet. For planning: carry a real map and check conditions before you go.
Bloody Canyon climbs from Walker Lake past Lower and Upper Sardine lakes to Mono Pass on the Sierra crest. Most people do Mono Pass from the Yosemite side, an 8-mile round trip from Dana Meadows inside the park. Strong hikers keep going and come down Bloody Canyon to this side, with a car waiting at the bottom.
