Gibbs Lake
Steep and quiet, up Gibbs Canyon from Horse Meadows south of Lee Vining.
Map by Bill Tipton, made for the Yosemite Gateway Chalet. For planning: carry a real map and check conditions before you go.
On Highway 395 south of Lee Vining, turn west on the dirt road signed for Horse Meadows. Most cars will need to park about a mile before the trailhead. Follow the steep old road through the forest to its end, then the trail up Gibbs Canyon to the lake. If you see another person up here, wave. They earned it too.
