Carson Peak
The mountain over the hot tub. A 10,000-foot summit from the back door.
Map by Bill Tipton, made for the Yosemite Gateway Chalet. For planning: carry a real map and check conditions before you go.
The mountain you see from the hot tub, and you can climb it without getting in a car. Take the Fern Lake trail, continue past the lake up the east slope to the summit plateau, then walk north to the top. The fast way down is the scree run on the back side toward Agnew Lake, then the Rush Creek trail to Silver Lake. It is not for everybody, and it is no place for new boots.
